Regenerative Braking System

1.11. Regenerative Braking System

regenerative braking system is an energy recovery mechanism, which slows a vehicle by converting its kinetic energy into a form which can be used immediately or stored until needed.

It is a Kinetic energy recovery system, include conversion to electric energy: the motor as a generator & Conversion to mechanical energy. Regenerative and friction braking must both be used, creating the need to control them to produce the required total braking.

Regenerative braking system use in Electric trains, cars, and other electric vehicles are powered by electric motors connected to batteries. The most common form of regenerative brake involves an electric motor as an electric generator.

1.11.1. Practical application:

Chevrolet Bolt, GM EV-1 commercial car, runaway train in 1948 Switzerland.
